Area of Effect Spell Cap Not Stopping Mages in Burning Crusade Classic

In the most recent update to the Burning Crusade Classic Beta
, Blizzard implemented the area of effect spell damage caps. After the update, Mages are still able to solo farm Slave Pens without any trouble. Is the area of effect spell damage cap enough to stop players in 2021?

Players on the Burning Crusade Classic Beta are fed up, Mages are still able to AoE farm, even after the recent Update, which implemented the area of effect spell damage cap. Looking back at where this change came from in Burning Crusade,
has patch notes that mention it specifically. Blizzard implemented area of effect spell damage caps to the following five spells:
Some clever Mages realized right after Blizzconline, where Blizzard announced Burning Crusade Classic, that the old 2007 Blizzard forgot about one important spell...
. Most players that played back in Burning Crusade are also familiar with how powerful Protection Paladins are, thanks to
ignoring the AoE spell damage cap. It's pretty clear that when Blizzard implemented these AoE caps back in 2007, they didn't take a close enough look at every spell or create a "catch all" approach to the AoE cap, which could have impacted all spells.
Since the Burning Crusade Classic Beta was updated with the correct AoE damage cap, how are Mages fairing?
Mages are AoE Farming just fine
As many people suspected, Mages are doing just fine,
as the above clip from Lepan demonstrates
. In addition to farming everything just with Blizzard as they did before, Mages can also squeeze in a Flamestrike,
as Jokerd shows in this clip
. If Mages are still able to AoE farm after the change, it means the AoE cap doesn't really do anything except make these pulls take longer. Is that a sufficient enough change? Does this even fix the "problem"?
Looking at these clips from Maraudon, The Slave Pens, old clips from Zul'Gurub, and many others, there seems to be a pretty clear pattern between all of these different AoE farms, and it has nothing to do with how much damage these spells deal to groups of enemy targets...
Is Mob Pathing the Real Issue?

shows how mob pathing can be easily abused for the purposes of solo farming,
on a completely naked Paladin
. With enough patience and understanding of how to abuse pathing, Tedj demonstrates how a Paladin could do what a Mage does in Zul'Gurub. Now imagine a Paladin at Level 70, in full Best in Slot gear, doing the same thing.
Even if Blizzard put a bigger nerf on the
Blizzard, what would stop Mages from just using Rank 1 Blizzard, Frost Nova, and Water Elemental Freeze to slow and group enemies together, before Flamestriking them all down and abusing pathing? The real issue seems like it's mob AI and pathing, not necessarily spell damage on Area of effect spells. And as Tedj shows off in the above video, even if you "fix" Mages, what about Paladins?
Paladins will replace Mages anyway

, Protection Paladins can easily solo farm most content from Classic World of Warcraft and likely a ton of content in Burning Crusade.
Paladins with the right Protection build and a few pieces of gear will be able to AoE farm all the popular dungeons that current Classic World of Warcraft Mages use to boost new characters. In fact, Paladins can do it much easier, by just keeping the mobs in front of them and refreshing Consecration every so often. If you think Mage boosters are an issue in Classic, wait until you see how many people will be using a Protection Paladin to boost...
Whether or not Blizzard increases the AoE damage caps for Mages, in an effort to stop Slave Pens boosting, there is no escaping the reality --
AoE farming is a part of World of Warcraft
. It's either going to be Mages, Paladins, or
people will find something else
. It's here to stay.
